MySQL Database Storage Engines

MySQL database storage engines are programs that are integrated into MySQL database management system to manage data tables. MySQL 5.0 supports the following major storage engines:

MyISAM Storage Engine – MySQL default storage engine. Based on ISAM database concept. MyISAM is not transaction safe.

InnoDB Storage Engine – A transaction safe storage engine developed by Innobase Oy (an Oracle company).

BDB (BerkeleyDB) Storage Engine – A transaction safe storage engine originally developed at U.C. Berkeley. Sleepycat Software, Inc. was created in 1996 to continue BDB development. Sleepycat is an Oracle company now.

CSV Storage Engine – A simple storage engine storing data as text files using comma-separated values format.

MEMORY (HEAP) Storage Engine Storage Engine – A storage engine storing data in computer main memory.

Difference Between MyISAM and InnoDB

Both MyISAM and InnoDB are database storage system and is widely used in MySQL.

MyISAM is a storage engine used as the default storage engine for MySQL database. MyISAM is based on the ISAM (Indexed Sequential Access Method) concept and offers fast data storage and retrieval. But it is not transaction safe.

InnoDB is a transaction safe storage engine developed by Innobase Oy and was acquired by Oracle in October 2005.

Break and Continue Statements in VB.NET

VB6: Write Better Code with Option Explicit

In Visual Basic 6, you can use a variable in code without declaring it, sometimes also known as implicit declaration. While it can be useful in some ways, it’s certainly not a good way of making sure that each variable exists and are being used where and when you want it to be used.

If you include the Option Explicit statement in a module, then VB will require explicit declarations for all variables in that module. Any misspelled variables, instead of being created as a new variable with a type of Variant which will happen if you’re using the implicit declaration mode, are now flagged as syntax errors when you try to run the program, and then you can make the necessary corrections. Place the Option Explicit statement at the start of each module (before any procedures). You can make this automatic by selecting Tools | Options and and selecting the Require Variable Declaration option.
