The idea is to reply to people who are looking to buy something with an ebay affiliate link masked with bit.ly landing them on a specific ebay page. The idea did work and it did generated some cash (nothing substantial though) but it seems that ebay isn’t happy about it.

Google Affiliate Network Payments Links Up with Google Adsense
Affiliate marketers in the Google Affiliate Network (formerly Performics) will now be able to get their payments accrued into Google Adsense and get paid according to the adsense payment cycle. Affiliate marketers will need to link your GAN account with an existing or new adsense account by 12th September 2009. Personally, I’ve been an adsense publisher before going into affiliate marketing and this is a good change in my opinion.

New Clickbank Analytics Report Rocks
Clickbank has recently revamped their analytics report. The most important new feature from an affiliate marketer’s point of view is the analytics on how many times the order form has been visited from the merchant/vendor page. Instead of blindly believing that the vendor page has a high conversion rate (as most vendors claim they do), this information gives affiliates some clue in determing how many people are actually interested in buying and how many had acually went ahead and bought it.

Amazon Acquires Zappos
This is probably the biggest news in affiliate marketing and retail of the year. Zappos has signed a definitive agreement in which all of the existing shareholders and investors of Zappos will be exchanging their Zappos stock for Amazon stock. Once the exchange is done, Amazon will become the only shareholder of Zappos stock (subject to government approval). Based on Amazon’s closing price of $88.79 (as of July 22, 2009), the deal is valued at about $927.9 million.
