I’ve just upgraded my favorite text editor, Notepad++, to the latest v.5.6.4 (from 5.5.x) and was surprised to find that there’s now a plugin manager user interface where you can browse and choose what plugins to be installed with Notepad++. Reading the changelog shows that this was introduced in 5.6. Way too perfect if you ask me!

Microsoft Office 2010 Pricing Details
Something new from Microsoft this time as Microsoft Office 2010 will be a little bit cheaper thanks to the ability to purchase a card with a product key on it, foregoing the physical CD. The catch is that if you buy the product key card only, you are limited to installing it on a single computer. If you buy the boxed edition, you are entitled to install the program on two of your PCs.

File Compression Software Utility Comparison
I’m still a bit surprised to find people thinking that Winzip is the only software (or simply the best that they can find) that can help in compressing files so that they become smaller to send, upload or store. Ditch Winzip. They might be one of the most popular commercial software since they were one of the pioneers in file compression utilities for Windows but these days there are better alternatives and Winrar, 7-zip and Jzip (based on 7zip) pops into mind.

Dual Pane/Windows File Manager Software
The default windows explorer shows only the content of the folder that you’re currently browsing. What happens if you want to view 2 folders or more at the same time? You open 2 windows explorer or more. That can be a hassle when you’re constantly browsing, managing and moving files around so I’ve always used dual panel/windows explorer file manager such as Norton Commander, Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander), xPlorer and FreeCommander.
