I’ve done a bit of work on my wordpress blogs recently involving creating a new category which covers stuffs I’m interested in but maybe not-so-interesting for my blog’s regular readers and feed subscribers. I’ve managed to exclude the whole category from showing up in my blog’s homepage (index), feeds and the recent posts sidebar. Here’s how I did it.

Imagine that you have lots of articles written on your wordpress blog containing links referring to external sources or interlinked to other places, directories or files in the same domain. You might not thought about it before, but it does happen when you get a broken link on your blog either because the external page has moved (and there wasn’t a redirect put into place) or that you might have simply included a typo while linking. How do you find and fix these invalid links?

I’ve just upgrade my blog to run on wordpress 2.8. Major new improvements includes revamped widgets interface, browsing wordpress theme directory + previewing and installing wordpress themes without leaving your blog, new screen options on every page (no more messing around with setting post per page for your post>edit section) and a much appreciated Codepress editor with syntax highlighting support which will be really useful for developers working with html, css, php and javascript etc.

I was trying to update a category on my wordpress blog by changing the “category slug” from “business-news” to “business” but was greeted with a “category not updated” message. This problem happens due to the fact that there’s a clash with a tag with the same slug “business” in the database. Thus, the solution is pretty simple. You can either rename the tag’s slug to something else or use another name for the category slug.
I use Angsuman Translator on this blog to get my content automatically translated to different languages. Not long ago, I deleted all the translated page from the cache and since then noticed that there were lots of newly translated page returning 404 (due to error/service downtime from the translation engines).

An automatic upgrade feature has been included into WordPress since 2.7, and it was early on this week that this feature was brought into real use as I took the jump and upgraded as soon as WordPress 2.7.1 was released.
