I came across a pretty useful site today that helps people to find & compare Network Attached Storages (NAS in short).
My media, projects and work files are starting to build up in different places/computers/laptops/netbook/iPhone/iPad and I thought it’s a good idea if I can somehow centralize all this data in one place so they can be accessed from any devices while I’m at home.
Yeah, I know that there’s the cloud these days (dropbox, evernote, google docs etc) but I don’t think they work well with media files. Do I really want to upload to the cloud (at least the first time) and download movies/mp3s whenever I want to enjoy them? Nope, thanks. NAS seems to be the better choice.
That’s where nasreview.org came into my rescue while I was hunting for a NAS. I was able to find a network attached storage and even compare it to other nas to see which offers the best features with prices within my budget.
I was looking for nas with at least 2 bays in particular and shortlisted a few choices after doing some research.
– Synology DS211j
– QNAP TS-412
– Drobo DR04DD10
– Western Digital WDA4NC80000N
People often spend lots of time comparing (I do) but the site made network attached storage comparisons as easy as 123. Just check out the following links.
Synology DS211J vs QNAP TS-412
Drobo DR04DD10 vs Western Digital WDA4NC80000N
In the end, I think that the Synology and Drobo models are closer to what I need. I still haven’t made up my mind which to buy but at least I’m one step closer 🙂
