Is identity theft a real threat or what since I’m seeing insurance companies offering so called identity theft protection plan. It sounds more like inducing fear and luring people into buying these plans when most of the world’s population don’t need it. Tell me, from a scale of 1 to 10, how high is the risk of your identity details being stolen and being misused in any way?
Perhaps the identity theft that they are referring to has to do with credit cards, as can be seen from their landing page:
Credit and Identity Fraud hit over 9 million people each year – Is your ID being stolen today?
Important Information. When you enroll in identity theft protection, you will begin your free trial membership in xxxyyzz.com. If you don’t cancel your membership within the 30-day trial period, you will be billed for $9.95 for each month that you continue your membership.
Aha, monthly charges. All they’re into is rebills so they can charge you every month! I have an Amex and Mastercard credit card and each time there’s a suspicious activity (only once in 3 years), I called them up and they reverted the charge and gave me a new card. So, what’s the threat?
