So, it’s going to be Maria Sharapova against Ana Ivanovic in the Austrlian Open 2008 final.
Maria Sharapova went trough into the finals pretty easily by beating Jelena Jankovic 6-1, 6-3.
Ana Jankovic cruise through a bumpy journey, but was into the finals after defeating Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova 0-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was really a close match which I think Daniela was the better player who just happened to miss a couple of important points in the important moments.
Let’s make a bold prediction. I personally think that Maria Sharapove stand a VERY high chance of winning this tournament. Seeing her playing against Davenport, Henin and then Jelena and beating them one by one, she is simply unstoppable and in 100% good form.
And looking at how Ana won her match against Williams and Daniela, I should say that she is still not at that level yet to win against Maria. She is too vulnerable. Looking at how she miss lots of points from Daniella’s right court serve (as Daniella was really good in serving and send the ball blasting into the right hand side and thus widening the court), and how she stands and where she returns, I dare say she needs more work in her footwork… they are too shaky.
If Maria continues her strong serves, and played like how she played against Henin, and maybe stop shoutting, she stand a good chance of winning it big against Ana. We will see.
