Forcing people like me to join a forum or social site is just so hard to do, if not impossible. And even worse when I see people restricting their blog comments only to people who are registered with the blog.
As a rule of thumb, you should never restrict readers from leaving a comment on your site. The job is to make things easier for people to come to you, not building another wall so high people just leave.
If you’re afraid of spam, get antispam plugins, modules or whatever that can get that done.

Its exactly true… Nobody likes to login to post a comment…. Its exactly waste of time… But because of these restrictions, the blog poster may lose a lot of valuable comments and visitors.

I agree you should be force to login to make a comment. Not many people like to give information to someone uneccessarily.

I use this to get email subscriptions. truth is, I hate comments, they’re so spammy and they rarely help people. the exception being if its a tech forum or a blog offering help on a subject

I hate this too. That’s why I don’t sign up
