Back when Oracle decided to acquire Sun (who had previously acquired MySQL), there were people who were concerned about the future of MySQL, myself included.
However, a recent newsletter shows out that Oracle is in fact backing MySQL and doing what Oracle do best – providing training courses and make tons of money out of it!
And Yes, it doesn’t hurt that Oracle recognizes the fact that “MySQL Is Everywhere”.

There was this comment which I couldn’t agree more
Please just don’t give us an Oracle Installer – the worst idea ever. And please keep it small – that is why we chose MySQL in the first place – simple, small, efficient.
In MySQL 5.5, InnoDB will be the default storage engine and shows a performance improvement of 300+% over 5.1.4. Let’s hope Oracle get it right and don’t screw the open source community or else we’ll all go looking (or writing!) MySQL forks.
