Packt just revealed that WordPress is the first winner of the 2007 Open Source CMS Award, picking up the best Open Source Social Networking Content Management System. In a very close category, WordPress came out in front of Elgg and Drupal, who finished joint second.
Though you can only read good words and congrats at Matt’s blog, things are a bit different here.
I’m not in a good position to judge which is better, but i do have a “little” bit of experience using drupal and more hands on experience with WordPress. I think installation wasn’t the main issue at all, although some people like to compare this. I’m more into the functionality and usability of the software.
Drupal is considered a real content management system (CMS) while wordpress drops into the category of a blogging system, although i think of it as a CMS myself (there’s already funcionality to do things like multiple authors, category, tags, post editing etc).
I’ve tried both Joomla and Drupal while just starting to build community websites but found myself spending too much time configuring, testing and fixing problems. WordPress was a different story. But I might have found wordpress easier to manage since I was bombarded with problems with Joomla and Drupal before I thouched WordPress (maybe i was still wearing diapers when I tried them).
Like the saying goes: “Whatever that don’t kill you, makes you stronger”. And no, I’m not talking drugs and alcohol here 🙂
